Here are 5 tips to go to Africa and conquer the Kilimandjaro:

1 – Physical preparation

Kilimandjaro is not a particularly difficult summit, as it doesn’t require technical skills. This is why the preparation requires especially strength in the legs and a slight acclimatization in high mountains. In France, you can practice regularly in the Vosges (Alsace), but also on summits like Allalinhorn (Switzerland) in the Alps. Train on climbs between 3 000 and 4 000 meters of altitude,  it will be very good.

2 – Choosing a good organization for your ascent

In Tanzania, guide organizations are an integral part of their tourism economy and culture. We strongly advise you to use these companies. For your children and for yourself, it is the assurance of having a light pack on your shoulders, to have a breakfast, a meal and a fresh dinner, to have a camp prepared for your arrivals and be serene for your ascent.

3 – Dress warmly

4 – Take time to visit

An expedition to Kilimandjaro is, beyond the sporting aspect, a cultural and human journey. Take time to visit the city of Moshi and its surroundings, the banana forests, the production of banana beer hidden in a hut in the lush forest, the Kilasiya Waterfall, the market of the city with its textiles and exotic fruits, go see the safaris or Natron Lake, known to be pink so there are flamingos!

5 – Take a pillow!

For the fun and anecdotal touch, we strongly advise you to bring a pillow with you. If you plan to go on a safari or take a car to visit, this accessory will be essential. Yes, the roads are not the image of our highways. There are innumerable holes and bumps!
